Artist Whos Teaming With USA Today On Wrongful Incarceration Awareness Has U M Link

Peter Tunney, the celebrated neo-pop artist who is teaming with USA Today to spread awareness on the issue of wrongful incarceration, has a link to Michigan through another worthy event — this one aimed at destigmatizing mental illness.

In 2018, Tunney participated in a weeklong event held by the University of Michigan in partnership with the rapper Logic, Oscar-nominated actress Glenn Close, former NFL linebacker Brandon Marshall and his wife, Michi, and the Steven Schwartzberg Foundation.

The Who Can Relate? event was designed to encourage discussions and stop stigmas about mental illness. Its name came from a lyric in Logic’s hit song about suicide prevention, “800-273-8255.”

Tunney conducted workshops for the university's School of Music, Theatre & Dance and the Stamps School of Art & Design and joined a roundtable discussion with Close and the Marshalls.

He also created two paintings for Who Can Relate? that were featured as backdrops for a benefit concert by Logic at Hill Auditorium and other events during the week. The paintings celebrate a number of iconic campus sites and famous Michigan alums like Tom Brady, Gilda Radner, Mike Wallace and Gerald Ford.

According to his website, Tunney sold 25 limited-edition prints of the two works for $1,500 each and donated all of the proceeds to mental health charities.
